Our life goes where our decisions take us, and behind those decisions are assumptions that we make every day. There are many times when the bad decisions we make have roots in wrong assumptions. Before making any big decision, it is important to review our assumptions.

There are a few techniques to help you control your nerves. * Be prepared. Generally speaking you will find the more prepared you are the less nervous you will be. * Have a stretch. Bend forward, backwards, left and right. Stretch your arms. * Do the mouth and lip exercises that I demonstrated in tip number 9. But the most valuable tip I can give is to focus on the audience and not on yourself. If you’re speaking and focusing on * How do I sound? * How do I look? * What are they thinking of me? * How long before I get off? That is when you’ll get nervous If you focus on * Teaching your audience * Entertaining your audience * Inspiring your audience the focus will be on your audience and not on you. As a result your nerves will eventually disappear.

Our beliefs work as a magnet, and often pull us towards situations that match what we believe about ourselves. Since many of our long-held beliefs are so strong, they are often directing our lives without us really knowing it. It’s important to review whether our beliefs are taking us where we want to go.
One of the things that has struck me most about listening to Steve Jobs’ biography on Audible is the amount of crying that goes on. Not just him but others – and not just others who he has made cry. People in all sorts of positions welling up in the face of the challenges and setbacks they faced.
It is all too easy to think that successful people have it easier than the rest of us or that they are so full of confidence that they sail through life’s challenges. It is good to be reminded that they don’t face any less difficulties than we do – they are just less likely to back away from them and they do what it takes to move forward. Repeatedly and no matter how scared they are.

However, the people who achieve long-term success never take this road to their success…they take the higher road because they will stand out for the right reasons (and, there’s less traffic there).

Conflict means energy is there, and that people trust each other enough to say what they are really thinking. Conflict around the issues is really good, as it always help to bring stronger solutions in the end.
